Karyn Jensen

2017 President

Karyn Jensen has been an active member of NNHRA since 1991; most recently serving as President-Elect and VP of Membership. Karyn served for two years as Chair of the Best Places to Work Committee during the foundational stages of NNHRA’s sponsorship of the event, now in its 10th year.  In 2004, Karyn founded The Human Resource Connection, Ltd. (HRC). She held management positions at IGT, Jensen Precast, and Fitzgerald’s Group.

In 2010, Karyn received the NNHRA HR Super Star Excellence Award and the 2010 Professional Saleswoman of Nevada Award. She holds an MS in Human Resources, has been SPHR certified since 1999, and is SHRM-SCP certified. Karyn has also instructed for UNR since 1993.

Karyn enjoys camping, boating and spending time with her two girls. She also volunteers, most notably raising money for The American Cancer Society through Relay for Life.

Teresa Finn

Past President
Teresa Finn is NNHRA’s Past President. She is currently the Director of Human Resources at Server Technology. Her previous experience includes positions with Fortune 300 Companies, City Government, Manufacturing, and Hospitality.  Teresa holds a BA in Communications and Business Administration, has been certified as a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) since 2001, and is also a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).

A seasoned, energetic HR business partner, Teresa has been an active NNHRA member throughout the years. She spent several years as Certification Chair, and as 2016 President, she successfully implemented several new initiatives. She brings a broad scope of experience, expertise, and passion to the organization.

Teresa began her HR career in Seattle, and then transferred to the California Bay Area in 1998. She settled in Northern Nevada in 2004, and wouldn’t live anywhere else. Reno will always be “home”.

Melissa Davies

President Elect
Melissa Davies is NNHRA’s 2017 President Elect. Recently serving as the VP of membership, Melissa brings vast expertise to her new role. Melissa is a licensed Benefit Solutions Consultant for Clark & Associates and has 10 years of experience assisting employers and HR professionals with comprehensive employee benefit solutions. The development of creative insurance solutions for employer groups of all sizes is Melissa’s specialty.

Melissa continues her involvement with NNHRA as a participant on the Workforce Readiness Committee. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno and earned her Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designation in 2013. Melissa is very active in our community as past president of the Northern Nevada Health Underwriters Association and past chair of the Chamber’s Healthcare Forum. She is currently Board Secretary for Bristlecone Family Resources and a graduate of the Reno Sparks Chamber 2010 Leadership Program.

Lisa Duc

Lisa Duc

Lisa is the Manager of Service & Support at Intuit. Lisa has been a member of NNHRA and SHRM since 2014 and earned her Professional of Human Resources (PHR) certification in May of 2016. She currently volunteers on both the NNHRA Membership and Best Places to Work committees. Lisa worked as a business process consultant focused on operational improvement for over 15 years and brings her expertise in Human Resources to her current role as Manager of Service & Support for Intuit.

Starlene Regalado

Treasurer
Starlene Regalado is the firm wide Human Resources Manager for NCE. Having joined NCE in 2001, her experience includes all facets of the HR role. Starlene manages NCE’s five locations throughout Nevada and California. Some of her duties include employee benefits, team sourcing and recruitment, staff training, and mentoring. In addition, she provides financial administration support for federal and city clients, including financial information for quarterly reports and updating project modifications. She also acts as the liaison for contractual financial requirements of clients.

Starlene holds her designations as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM – Certified Professional (CP), and has been a NNHRA and SHRM member since 2007. She looks forward to serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for the Reno NNHRA chapter. Outside of work, Starlene enjoys leisure time with her husband and two dogs.

Rachel McManus

VP Membership

Rachel McManus is currently the Labor Relations Specialist at NV Energy.  She has over 10 years of experience in the human resources field including work in healthcare, manufacturing and utilities. Rachel has extensive experience in developing innovative recruitment strategies that enable business leaders to achieve their staffing goals. She holds her Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification from HRCI along with her SHRM-CP credential from SHRM.

Prior to her role as VP of Membership for NNHRA, she served on the NNHRA Membership Committee. In her new role at NNHRA, Rachel is excited to build NNHRA membership, using creative ideas to increase participation and membership for the association. Rachel is also an active volunteer for Transforming Youth Recovery, a non-profit charity that focuses on supporting educators, parents and community members in helping students in recovery thrive in the fullness of everyday life.

Johnny Skowronek

VP Programs
Johnny Skowronek owns and operates Square 1 Solutions, a direct placement and temporary staffing company with his two brothers David and Michael. Square 1 Solutions specializes in placing employees for clients in a wide variety of employment situations ranging from temporary and full time assignments for construction, production, manufacturing and distribution staff. Services also include direct placement of managerial, technical and executive employees. Most recently, Johnny served as Secretary/Historian for NNHRA , and we anticipate his continued contribution in the new role of VP Programs.

With over 10 years’ experience in the staffing industry, Johnny is an expert interviewer and resume critic. He uses those skills to connect high caliber talent with respected and successful companies in the Reno area. He manages sales, marketing, employee pre-screening and selection for Square 1 Solutions. Johnny is also a current member of the Board of Directors for the Builders Association of Northern Nevada (BANN), and a current member of the Board of Directors for the Reno-Tahoe Young Professionals Network.

Brad Stewart

Best Places to Work Co-Chair 
Brad Stewart is Co-Chair for the Best Places to Work Committee for NNHRA. Brad has first-hand experience in managing a Best Place to Work, and is a natural in this role. He has been a member of the chapter since 2007, President and Past-President, and an active NNHRA member since 2012. Brad enjoys his work for EmployBridge as the Area Director for the state of Nevada. EmployBridge is a family of specialized staffing companies that includes ProLogistix, ResourceMFG, Personnel One and Select Staffing.

Brad earned a BA (Journalism) and an MBA from the University of Nevada. He has more than 10 years’ of business development and management experience, including 7 years’ in the staffing and recruiting industry. Outside of work, Brad enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and spending time with his wife Wendy and their two sons, Tanner and Parker.

Stallar Lufrano-Jardine

Best Places to Work Co-Chair
Stallar Lufrano-Jardine is the Director of Career Services with The College of Business at the University of Nevada. Stallar guides and counsels undergraduate students seeking internships, full-time, and part-time positions. She has expanded student programs such as Wolf Pack Shadow, and has hit record attendance among employers and students at the All Majors Career and Internship Fair. Her goal is to make sure employers and volunteers in the community have a chance to build relationships with students.

Stallar continues her involvement as Co-Chair on the 2016 Best Places to Work Committee. This Committee interacts with the local Chamber of Commerce, business organizations, business news writers, and other community groups in our region. Stallar and the Community relations team are focused on NNHRA’s annual program: Best Places to Work

Dena Wiggins

Certification Chair
Dena Wiggins is the Human Resource Administrator at the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD).  She oversees  the Human Resource function of the 120 employee District consisting of Fire Fighters, Paramedics, Equipment Operators, Captains, Battalion Chiefs, and administrative personnel.   She is responsible for recruitment,  federal and state compliance, workers compensation, collective bargaining and HR policies and procedures.  Previously she was the Human Resource Manager for Baldini’s Casino and has also held positions  as Director of Education for ProNet, HR Manager for American Medflight and HR specialist with the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

Dena earned  her Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management (MPPA) from the University of Southern Maine  and holds an SPHR designation from HRCI. She enjoys backpacking, camping, bike touring and tennis.

Laura Cox

College Relations Chair
Laura Cox is the Human Resources Director for the Club Cal Neva. Laura has more than 10 years’ Human Resource experience. She has been involved in all aspects of Human Resources Management. She began her Human Resources career working in the medical field at Renown Health, and has served as HR Manager, Assistant Operations Manager, and Business Partner in various industries throughout the region.

Laura was born and raised in Reno. She has served on the Board of Directors for Sparks Pop Warner, has volunteered in various charity events, and most recently as the NNHRA Chair for College Relations. She is passionate about helping others and making a genuine difference in people’s lives. Laura is an avid believer that we should have empathy, kindness and compassion for others. She enjoys being outdoors and spending as much time as possible with her daughter Jazmyn.

Cindy Saunders

Communications Director
Cindy Saunders is Human Resources Business Partner for Chromalloy Nevada. Cindy has been a dedicated committee member for several years in the production of NNHRA’s Best Places to Work events, and serves as our communications and publicity go-to person. Cindy is committed to expanding the reach of NNHRA with social media, an informative website, organizational communications, and by serving as editor for the NNHRA/NNBW Human Resource and Employment Guide. With each project, she endeavors to convey NNHRA’s mission: to serve the professional and advance the profession.

Cindy has more than 20 years’ management experience in the mining, finance, health care, manufacturing and staffing industries. She holds SPHR and GPHR (Global Professional Human Resources) designations and is SHRM-SCP certified. She received the 2014 Women of Achievement award from Nevada Women’s Fund, and is a published author.

Jeromy Manke

Diversity Director
Jeromy Manke, PHR, SHRM-CP, is currently Director of the NNHRA Diversity Committee; which seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. He previously served as the Nevada State SHRM Council’s Director of Young Professionals from 2013-2015, helping to achieve the 2014 Pinnacle Award. During the same period, he served on the SHRM National Young Professionals Advisory Council.

Jeromy works as HR Business Partner with Reliable Management Solutions. In this position, Jeromy has acquired considerable experience managing functional areas of HR and conducting workplace investigations. With clients from a variety of industries, he excels in process development, employee relations matters, and regulatory compliance. His personal objective is to help better the work environment for employers and employees alike. He earned a Bachelor of Science in International Business Management with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Mark Tulman

Legislative Affairs Director

Mark Tulman is the Business Development Manager for Nevada Association of Employers.  Mark has been a member of the Northern Nevada Human Resources Association for 3 years and is currently the Director of Legislative Affairs for 2016-17.  He also volunteers on NNHRA’s College Relations Committee where he enjoys speaking to students.

Mark has a passion for economic development. Years of experience in the corporate world and business ownership gives Mark extensive knowledge of the business community and community at large; he is involved in multiple business organizations in our region.  He is a current board member with Nevadaworks, and an active member of the Reno Chamber of Commerce.   Mark also works with Toastmasters, Nevada Center of Entrepreneurs and Technology, and Western Industrial of Nevada.

Mark enjoys traveling internationally with his wife, Kim. He also enjoys playing basketball and softball.

Alissa Gee

Professional Development Chair

Alissa Gee is currently the Employee Relations Specialist at Renown Health. In this role, she primarily works with the HR Business Partner team to thoroughly investigate employee concerns and make recommendations based on current employment law and organizational policies. Prior to her current role, she served as Safety Administrator/HR Generalist at Q&D Construction. During her time at Q&D Construction she gained experience piloting an employee wellness program, new employee onboarding process, and Language and Literacy program. She holds her Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification and was recently named to SHRM’s “30 under 30” list, recognizing full-time HR professionals under the age of 30 who have made a unique and significant contribution to the profession.

Serving as the Professional Development chair is Alissa’s introduction to the NNHRA board. She enjoys planning programs that provide invaluable growth and learning opportunities for others in any phase of their HR or management career. Additionally, she is involved with the Reno chapter of Association for American University Women (AAUW). As a member of AAUW, she co-facilitates Start Smart salary negotiation workshops that address the gender pay gap and introduce skills for college women entering the workforce.

Courtney Pino

Programs Chair
Courtney Pino joined EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants in February 2015 as an Employee Benefits Consultant. In her role as a consultant, she specializes in all aspects of employee benefits consulting, including compliance, cost containment, negotiations, wellness programs, communications, human resource support and general new business development of a wide range of medium to large size businesses.

Courtney is also a member of the Rotary Club of Reno Centennial Sunset, is a “Big Sister” for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, and involved in Toastmasters, the Reno-Tahoe Young Professionals Network, and the Builders Association of Northern Nevada (BANN).

Alycia Wilkinson

SHRM Foundation Director

Alycia Wilkinson is a partner for BlueBird, CPAs, a local CPA firm specializing in audit and consulting services for Native American Tribes and Casinos. She has been at the firm for 16 years, previously serving as the sole human resource department as well as the client relationship director. The firm has grown from a handful of employees to nearly 25 employees with a HR department of 4, and enjoys its success as a unique audit firm sought out by many new accounting students in our area.

Alycia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, and is currently awaiting CPA licensure. She serves as the firm representative for the firm’s associate membership in the National Indian Gaming Association, a national organization comprised of 184 American Indian Nations aimed at advancing the lives of Indian people – economically, socially, and politically. She is also an Accredited Administrator in Accounting Practice Management.

Melissa Marsh

Workforce Readiness Director

Melissa Marsh, is founder of HRinDemand LLC, a Reno-based human resources consultancy firm providing easy-to-use tools and expert guidance to help entrepreneurs and small business owners effectively recruit, hire and manage employees. With over 15 years’ HR experience, Melissa is able to readily assess an employer’s needs. She brings experience and understanding to help business owners navigate the maze of employment regulations in their industries. Melissa also conducts internal investigations of harassment, discrimination and other employment-related complaints. She is dedicated to the advancement of her profession, and has served on organizational committees for the 2012 Nevada State SHRM Conference and the 2013 Nevada State Legislative Conference.

Melissa is a native Nevadan, a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno, the recipient of a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, an HRCI-certified Senior HR Professional, and SHRM Senior Certified Professional.

Josh Grace

Young Professionals Network Chair
Josh Grace is the Senior Director of Project Management at Healing HealthCare Systems, Inc.  He specializes in Project Management and Operations, but also assists with HR functions, working to develop and refine HR initiatives that reinforce the unique culture at HHS which has led to two Finalist Placements (3rd in 2014, and 1st in 2015) at the NNHRA Best Places to Work Event.

Josh is currently the Chair of the NNHRA Young Professionals Committee as well as Co-Director of the Nevada SHRM State Council Young Professionals Committee.  He is excited to work with local business groups to expand the footprint of NNHRA YP in Northern Nevada, and establish programs that help educate and enhance the skills of young HR professionals.   Josh also served as NNHRA Treasurer in 2015 and as Chair of the College Relations Committee at NNHRA from 2013-2014.

Dawn Morgan

Carson Area Chair 
Dawn Morgan has more than 10 years’ experience in Human Resources. Her current position is Human Resources Administrator for North Sails in Minden, Nevada. Dawn manages employee health and dental benefits, short term disability, long term disability, workers compensation, leave of absence and the Company 401(K). She holds a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute and is a SHRM-Certified Professional.

Dawn has been a member of NNHRA for several years, and is pleased to join the team as they continue to expand the Carson City meetings. Carson City has been experiencing steady growth over time, and is reaching capacity at their meeting space. Dawn is working with her team members to support this exciting growth. Dedicated NNHRA members like Dawn make it possible to offer great programs, networking and education to Carson City and surrounding areas.

Christen Rodriguez

Carson Area Chair Elect

Christen Rodriguez is the Training and Recruitment Manager at Harrah’s and Harvey’s in Lake Tahoe. She has been in training and recruitment for over 13 years’. Christen previously has held positions as Director of Career Services, Branch Manager, and Senior Recruiter. Although familiar with Northern California, Christen is new to the Reno/Carson/Tahoe area.

She has her Bachelor’s Degree from CSU Stanislaus in Organizational Communication.  Christen serves as an ambassador of the Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, and a Member of SHRM. She is eager to help grow the Carson Chapter, and enjoys networking with new companies and individuals.

Nicole Williams

Carson Area Membership Chair
Nicole Williams is Branch Manager of ProLogistx and ResourceMFG in Carson City.  These brands operate under their parent company Employbridge, a family of specialized staffing companies serving businesses throughout the US. Nicole has been part of NNHRA since 2012, and is currently Chair of the Carson City Membership Committee. She is eager to help grow the Carson Chapter, and enjoys networking with new companies and individuals.

Nicole has over 13 years’ of staffing and recruiting experience. She takes pride in finding great candidates for great companies in Northern Nevada. She was born and raised in Carson City, and maintains strong business ties with the community. She is a member of SHRM, NNHRA and the Carson Chamber of Commerce. Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, friends and two dogs. She’s an avid sports fan and enjoys watching football, baseball and basketball.

Cathy Norris

Carson Area Programs
Cathy Norris is the Chair of the Carson area programs for NNHRA. Cathy previously was Chair of the Workforce readiness Program which provides a repository of resources connecting Nevada workers with employers (bit.ly://NV-working). Cathy is the founder of Sensational Leadership, a company that coaches executives to increase leadership skills, maximize their teams’ performance, and retain their people by creating great places to work. She has coached and trained leaders in organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Cathy earned PhD candidacy in Instructional Systems Technology and an MA in Education from Indiana University, as well as two certifications in emotional intelligence. She has over 17 years’ experience consulting and training for global technology companies, including leading Learning & Development for the Asia Pacific region of Novell. Cathy lives in Crystal Bay, and loves the entire Reno-Tahoe region. She’s passionate about winter skate skiing, summer hiking, and enjoys local live music.
